You need to look at registration requirements. Travel nurses are, I believe, essentially working for an agency in their home country and being sent abroad or to another region. I think organizing it yourself to do a few months work in another country would be impossible as you license would not be valid.

The licensing can be a hassle. I suggested St Thomas because it is a US territory and the licensing is straightforward, but still a nuisance. If you work for a medical center outside the US, typically your agency will handle the paperwork...for a fee to the facility. Might want to check on your malpractice coverage wherever you decide to work. You could also visit the websites that rank the hospital in terms of outcomes, patient satisfaction, compliance, etc. Wouldn't want to put your license on the line with a dicey situation.

Re: Travel nursing while cruising

Are you a nurse ? Have you taken foreign assignments ?
I have. Ive worked in England, Ireland,Australia and many places throughout southeast asia. All on my own. no agencies.
no the money is not great in all those places but the reward is in the experiences.
Ive worked in hospitals, remote clinics and combat zones.
say what you will but Untill you actually do what Ive done its pure speculation.

Re: Travel nursing while cruising

Thanks for all the input. Currently working full time but plan to start travel nursing as we buy and prep a boat. I want to remain qualified for travel positions. We plan to cruise for several months then take a travel position. I have critical care and emergency experience for the past 8 years. How long can you take between positions to still be marketable?

I have similar plans. I am a cardiac Cath and interventional radiology rad tech with travel experience within California. Ideally, I would cruise 9 and work 3, however, other half will have none of that. Probably 3 on 3 off. I had intended to utilize agencies but am intrigued at the thought of arranging it all on my own. Now ya got me thinking.
