The hull. If that suffers a catastrophic failure nothing else has more than salvage value.

1. Maintenance (it's 18 years old and kept up)
2. Moorage
3. Fuel (I'm a power boater)
4. Insurance
5. Crew (I am the crew. That's why it is last.)

Re: The most expensive thing on a boat?

My precious cargo of rum

(and the freezer to make the ice cubes, the battery bank to power it, the solar panels to charge the bank, the watermaker to make fresh water for the ice cubes, not to mention the CO2 tank to carbonate the mixers).

Wow, drinking rum gets expensive.

Re: The most expensive thing on a boat?

Aside from the hull itself... the single most expensive "thing"... would be the mast or the engine.

Re: The most expensive thing on a boat?

I definitely spend the most on my engine and on my rig. The stove system can be pretty costly too.

I spend very little on my hull. Maybe $200/year on paint.
