Starlink in the Bahamas?

Is anyone currently using Starlink for work in the Bahamas? We need something fast and reliable enough for meetings and remote work. If you're using it, how do you like it? Have you found any limitations in service areas or performance? Is there anything we should be aware of, or questions we should ask, that are specific to using the internet while abroad on a boat?

TIA for your help!

I'd also be interested in energy consumption for a typical "always on" day.

It works in the Bahamas. I'm out here, works fine. Power draw is around 50w, sometimes higher.

I'm in Mexxico - works fine here also. Power draw is heavily dependent on how much your boat rocks&rolls.

40-50w is about normal, but maybe 60-70w when you are swinging

Our books have gotten 5 star reviews on Amazon. Several readers have written "I never thought I would go on a circumnavigation, but when I read these books, I was right there in the cockpit with Vinni and Carsten"

Re: Starlink in the Bahamas?

On FB there is a ‘Starlink for Sailboats’ forum should be able to answer most questions.

Re: Starlink in the Bahamas?

Currently in Hopetown and my Starlink has been working fine. Power use greatly seems to depend on what you are doing. Seems to use 1-3amps/DC 13V for just normal internet browsing and more if streaming video. That DC power consumption is going through a 500W pure sine inverter I have mine plugged into

Re: Starlink in the Bahamas?

for normal internet use.. starlink is a game changer.

but depending how you define "reliable".. for you may need to do the bandwidth bonding thing with a 4/5G plan or another starlink (or better...both)

..this should remedy two of potential negs (upload speeds and variable uptime)

your RV plan will be their lowest priority.. so you may get throttled anywhere near a city...

but i doubt that should be an issue in the bahamas (at least this year)

Re: Starlink in the Bahamas?

On the SV Parole we've been using the recently released 'RV In Motion' version for a week in the Bahamas, now in Alice town. (claims to snag three satellites at once)
So far no dropouts noted.
Multiple users with phone & Internet use. No one watching any videos, however.
