You got me. I only wear the flipflops on land. Mostly barefoot on the boat. Beside glass Slippers are so Disney. Ruby Slippers on the other hand....

Edit: YES I carry more then one set of filters too. Just when I use one, I go out and buy another so I always have multiple spares.
Flip flops!! I wish I could afford a pair, no way I'm paying what they're asking today for those things. My bare feet will have to do until I get back in my nurses shoes in November.... they're waiting by the front door, not allowed inside.

BTW: I like your new photo.

Re: Small Stuff Adds Up!

We have gone waaaay past the thread topic, but I'll play as it's that or old Twin Peaks on Netflix.

If I use last months total spend and subtract boat upgrades, dining out, the 1.5 months of marina costs, and transportation to get the low budget lifestyle, and then divide that by 2 because there are 2 of us and we need to adjust to the single people's monthly spend I get:

$451

You $600/mo people need to tighten your wallets some

Re: Small Stuff Adds Up!

On the question of what does sailorchic34 spend a month. Well since Don showed us his, here's mine.....

Typical monthly budget
Food for human $180 (sometimes less some times a bit more)

Food cat /litter for Dekat $100 (He's sooo expensive)

Fuel $25

phone and internet $60 (mostly for internet)

autocad monthy fee $50 (It allows me to make that income thingy)

lyft fees $60 (Better then a cab)

Marina fees $60 (Sometimes $90 sometimes $45)

Boat insurance $8 ($100 a year)

Boat maintenance $25 (sometimes nothing breaks othertimes it's more)

Human maintenance (pills, shampoo, clothing) $25
Entertainment (kindle unlimited) $9.95 I read maybe 8 books a week.

Total $603

Sorry I don't really care enough to actually save receipts for actual dollars and cents. It's not that important. This goes up and down a little bit and major ticket items like a new stove ($280) New fridge ($216 ) etc are not included. I buy the bigger ticket items only when income allows.

Note I spend zero on medical insurance (no irs fees if below poverty level). Zero on eating out, no car rentals, no flights home, zero for booze (I don't drink) or even coffee. (don't drink that either).

7 years ago it was $500 a month, but food prices have skyrocked.

I never knew I was so wasteful. Though Dekat is high maintenance and a bit spendy. Without Dekat I would be right at $500 a month and that includes Marina Visits....

Very true. And I have been doing just that for the past 19 years. I believe it is critical, to be able to answer planning questions as well. Not including fuel and slip and insurance, I have spent an average $4,000 per year on this kind of "stuff" - new electrical system and I/C and Link 2000 up front in the late 90s when we bought the boat, new standing rigging and furler in 2003, those are the two major things we did. Then the rest are all the bits & pieces of maintenance and cleaning gear including haulouts and bottom paint. sailorboy is right, it does add up.

Next year I'll be 62 and will retired. SS will provide about 3 times my current monthly income (TAX FREE), mainly as I made big bucks in my 30's and 40's and early 50's. I'll have the Rose hauled and painted and maybe splurge and get a new battery charger.

Thing is I have few needs wants or desires. A sunset and a calm morning are lovely and free. Maybe eat out a bit watch a movie and buy better grade of meat and some seafood. I've learned to live on very little.

On the other hand, if I had won that $400 million lottery, there was a lovely 75 foot yacht I had my eye on......
