Indeed, fuel IS available at the Sointula docks, with approx the best price on the BC coast.

Once per week (a set day) , the COOP tanker truck {which has both gas and diesel) drives down the dock, and brings hoses down to the loading zone. Local (and in-the-know visitors) boaters bring their boat to loading zone. (FYI, there IS a gas/diesel station with propane in the village.)

I agree, shopping is much better/easier in McNeill. For groceries, we have dinghied there, taken the ferry there, and also brought the main boat there. Nevertheless, the Sointula COOP store can provide supplies in a pinch.

Apparently you know Sointula much better than I do - although I have stopped in there and love the place!

I stand in awe (it's all over my shoes! What a mess!)

Oooh, ooh, I knew about the fuel!!! But of course we had filled in McNeill just before we pulled into Sointula and missed out

Ouch!

Ah yes, two boats. I wish... Even if cost weren't an issue, I think I'd want one south and one north. Kinda like our friend Hpeer. Now that would be sweet.

Port McNeill & Sointula both sound great. How about further north? Port Hardy area must be interesting. What about Prince Rupert area?

Well, Port Hardy is sortof considered the same area as Sointula and Port McNeill (indeed , McNeill and Hardy share the same local bus system). Port Hardy isn't an anchorage, and its facilities have gone downhill. The Quarterdeck Marina used to be great with good marine store and travelift and yard. But an "offshore" company bought Quarterdeck, immediately closed the yard/travelift and gutted marine store. Docks have gone downhill.

Nevertheless, Hardy Bay has 2 fuel docks, good food shopping, and other marine/hardware stores (esp Stryker marine).

Between McNeill and Port Hardy is Beaver "Harbour", with some reasonable anchoring.

The good stuff is past Port Hardy.

Haven't been to Prince Rupert for years (hope to dropin there in 2022), but always liked it. Between Hardy and Rupert on mainland, no large communities, with Bella Bella/Shearwater the major reprovisioning spot (local 1st Nations new owners of Shearwater in 2021: hope they continue (even improve) Shearwater's excellent service).

But would you? I see all these young west coasters eager to head to Mexico but somehow it just doesn't seem that urgent. Warmer? Yes. But with that it brings the "crowds." I wonder Mike if you would really be able to stand it. Every time I read about charters to the BVIs or other Caribbean spots all I hear about are crowded anchorages and bars. Not for me

I'm fine with waking up chilly in a misty cool anchorage—whichever coast it is.

Oh definitely. Give me cold over crowds any day. But can't I have both?

There are uncrowded places. VI’s are not one of them.
