Peter's still right.

KISS
He still needs some sort of contract and he did state contract/bill of sale. Whether his wording is correct or not, I'll give the benefit of the doubt and he isn't asking for a final bill of sale saying he owns the boat, but a contract that lays out the terms that shows he will owe the boat. It should also include a lot more details, such as dealing with what happens if there's an issue on the boat causing a full loss..etc..

But the OP asking for a contract of some sort is not only reasonably but prudent and required for him to continue.

Re: Owner Backing Out

The owner told be that he would write up a contract/bill-of-sale so that we were protected and after making a few payments I still had not received it. When I told him that I would not make any more payments until a bill of sale arrived, he became irate.

OK, let's read the OP. The two different phrases may well be the difference in understanding between the owner and the poster.

Perhaps if he'd asked for the red instead of just the blue, the owner might have understood.

Just reflecting what was written.

Re: Owner Backing Out

I agree Stu, given that he worded it twice though, I think it raises the question of what was asked for. Until the OP replies, I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt.

While he shouldn't be given a bill of sale, he should be given a contract that spells everything out. There's lots of contingency's that need to be considered.

Why? There's an endless supply of new fools born every day. And some of the existing fools get fleeced every day. Coming here for legal advice just confirms my assessment.
