Re: Newbies looking for a name for our boat!
Totally agree with the ease of hearing it on the VHF
Our current boat is named Panacea, nice name but my first choice was PeaceMaker because it made the admiral happy!
Did not have time to change it before last trip to the Bahamas so now everyone we met knows us as Panacea.
Two issues, there are hundreds of boats named the same
Hard to understand on VHF marinas alway come back with "fantasy" or something similar.
Make it unique something that means something to you (everyone loves walking down a dock and wondering why boat names are what they are)
Make it easy to understand on VHF
A quick search of the coast guard documentation center will give you an idea of how many boats have the name you are thinking of
Regards and happy boating

Re: Newbies looking for a name for our boat!
Hi All! Thank you for the suggestions and great tips! We've done some bantering back and forth with names, and nothing seemed to click until the other day we were leaving the marina and I just said, "Blue Eyes", let's name her Blue Eyes! Easy to say, she's painted blue, my eyes are blue, etc. etc. etc. LOL. Yes, she is currently named, but it means nothing to us. Thanks again everyone!

Hmmmm! ... not a bad try BUT, (yes, there's always a but). Two things come to mind. Either you are naming it for yourself, which is vanity in the extreme . . . Orrrrrrrrr . . . a long lost love which is what your wife will be thinking. Either way, you could be courting trouble with the admiral ...

Re: Newbies looking for a name for our boat!
Instead of BLUE EYES, maybe consider BLEW EYES or BLU WISE.
Instead of being selfish and naming after yourself, why not name it after your wife: BLUE ME.
OK, a bit crude, but I'm just saying what all of you were thinking, so get over it. And don't worry, unless your best friend likes the name so much he calls his boat BLUE ME II.

Re: Newbies looking for a name for our boat!
I have had various boats over the years, I like names that are plays on words. My present boat is named Hunky Dory easy to say, means everything is good and can also be a big row boat. The boat previous was named Northern Explorer, this boat was a Bayliner Explorer and we live in Canada, I used the compass rose with the N for the first letter. The boat before this was Pier Pressure again a play on words. When I get a sail boat I think the name Break Wind is hilarious, Have fun thats what boating is about.

Re: Newbies looking for a name for our boat!
Ive seen many names in my day and almost all more than 2 or three times.... except for 3 names...... before i go there 1 is offensive, but a play on words. I dont condone it just actually seen it and will save for last.
1. Psyco chicken
2. Crack Oar...... name of my boat.
3. Knot sea..... needless to say, he wasnt around too long.

Recently saw a Nordic Tug trawler, owned by a couple, named "Tugether".
