MARAD Small Vessel Waiver

Has anyone here applied for the small vessel waver?
If so any advice on answering the economic impact questions?
Wanting to charter my Jeanneau and do it legally. And yes I have my OUPV license.

Thanks
Lennie

Re: MARAD Small Vessel Waiver

Yes, its been a long time, but I dont think the process has changed much.

The biggest consideration I think is which venues you want a waiver for. The official I worked with was nice enough to tell me which ones NOT to put on the form. As I understand the process, if there is an objection then you are basically done. He told me that there are several venues which almost always generate objections (I dont recall which and it may have changed by now).

The safest bet on the impact questions is to describe in a way that shows little or no impact. In my case, my boat was going into an existing charter fleet so I could actually show a positive impact...even better!

Double check your Certificate of Documentation and build documents - my 44DS was built in Marion, SC.

My boat is a 03 DS43 built in France. So I'll need the waiver.

You might have your work cut out for you there is no shortage of charter boats in the PNW. And the season is short and the charter rates are about half of the Caribbean.
