Looking for US Boat Insurance recommendations

Besides hull and equipment coverage at an agreed value and liability (protection and indemnity) consider $939,800 accidental fuel and other spill liability, uninsured boater, towing / emergency services, low electronic equipment, personal property and tender deductibles, windstorm damage to an agreed value, $500,000 defense costs, personal property and shared expense hurricane haulout and ice and freeze coverages. In addition, other coverages may need to be considered depending on where you will be sailing.

Sorry for the dumb question, but what is "defense cost"?

Defense insurance pays for the cost to defend you above and beyond your liability limit. I understand most policies provide that coverage. If it does not, it could result in using up your liability limit leaving no money to pay for damages. My policy with Novamar Yacht Insurance specifically states that it provides $500,000 defense costs coverage in addition to $500,000 liability coverage.

American Modern Insurance Group. $450K agreed value. Bahamas and Gulf of Mexico coverage, including thru hurricane season. No haulout requirement. 10% named storm deductible, otherwise 2%. New catamaran. Clean record and high credit score. Approx $3000 premium. (Slightly less, but I don't remember exactly). No other quotes came close.
