How Old is Too Old to Learn to Sail ?

Im 57 years old. my wife and I went on a 2 week flotilla holiday in the Ionian Islands last October, never having stepped on a sailing yacht before. I fell in love with sailing straight away. We met like-minded people and in particular I got on with another guy, 64 years old. We made a pact to learn properly and went together to Gibraltar in December to do our RYA Competent Crew and Day Skipper courses. This week we have bought a Carter 33 that is moored in a sea loch on the west coast of Scotland and are currently planning the trip down to Fleetwood in the North West of England. Exciting times and many more ahead!

35 and 40 thinking already to be too old?



I bought my first boat at 63 and learned how to sail a 44ft catamaran. Now at 66 I start my circumnavigation in May 2019. My wife is 10 years younger and started learning to sail at 53 and is still learning; like me as well.



My physical and mental conditions are determining when I have to stop. I do 5x a week body maintenance (most people call it "fitness training").



Start sailing on any boat to get the feeling on what sailing is. Learn how to sail. Buy a boat and enjoy life on your boat. And, very important, keep your body in very shape; maintain it well.
