Now that is a subject i would happily pay to watch on a utube channel! Teach me how to live on my boat for 150 a month!

I have spent the last 25 years doing the heavy lifting on other peoples movies or television shows, so that I can spend evenings and weekends on our boat with the dream of one day cruising for longer periods of time. I have waltched many of the utube programs mentioned here and i must say i am often impressed by the production value on some of them. Not just any kid with a camera can consistently produce programing of the quality of "SV Delos" for example.

In "the old Days" sailors went to sea came home wrote a book about their adventures and funded the next adventure. All of this is just the natural progression of that same cycle. But just like everything else in our world its more instant.
And yes its a lot more in your face and some of the content may not be to your taste. However you can trace a line from "SV Delos" right back to Slocum, Moitessier, knox-Johnston and all who have funded there cruising with their words or art since.

You don't have to like it or understand it but that does not make it any less true.

To all SAILORS out there. We have to become "YouTube Toy Reviewers" just like that 7 year old kid who is raking in MILLIONS. Actually my grandson was pretending to do that a few years ago and we just thought it was cute (man were we dumb). That way we could all sail off into the sunset and look like we deserve it. Seriously though, I do watch and follow some youtube channels mostly the informative, decent, and well thought out ones but I haven't sent any money yet (might though).

Re: Help Me Pay My Way (Well, Not Quite ... )

Good morning all, Living on $150/week? - Stay out of marinas, always have a line out to catch fish to eat (nice to have passengers/crew to tend to such chores). I had some independent revenue to cover fuel, fresh vegetables & eggs (one tonne of fuel gave me 1000 nautical miles of travel). After three years I needed a refit ($80,000) which I could not do as I am very allergic to epoxy, so I now cruise in a landship or at the pace which the tectonic plate moves... Fair weather all...
