during retirement

gonna retire shortly. wife and myself want to island hop the bahamas for a few years on a motor yacht. gonna purchase a condo in treasure cay marina as a home base, but most of time spent on boat. own a tree and crane service for years, have cdl license, drove every tri axle there is , but never owned a boat. been on boats, never owned. wanna purchase like a 50 foot motor yacht, because thats what i see us on and want to be on. we love to entertain and will have guests for alot of trips. with the bow and stern thrusters they claim its like childs play docking, anyone know if this is true. wife and i going to take a bunch of courses, but not the captains course. on trips w guests we'll hire a captain n mate but i wanna have a boat that i can operate. i know it's kinda ballsy but i'm not spending my retirement on anything less. tell me what u think . i'm confident we will be great boat owners

You'll be fine on a 50 footer. After a good lesson by an experienced captain along with some practice to build up your confidence, docking will be easy with twin screws in the stern plus the thrusters.

My wife and I do just fine on our boat and rarely need the bow thruster.... But it sure is nice to have one.

Not a problem, once you get out here you will realize how simple it is. There is a whole geriatric community in the Caribbean stumbling into palm trees that manage to run boats. Big is good. If I had it to do over, I would get a 40x100' jack up barge, screw anchoring. 4000 sq ft per floor, twin props, shallow draft. A crane for your own dock and a fleet of tenders. Hell, you could plant shade trees.
