Reading between the lines of your post, I am assuming it is a state titled and registered boat. If it is a documented vessel another procedure is required.
The
current title has provisions for transfer/bill of sale. I believe it has statements that the seller warrants the vessel to be free of all liens and encumberances. The seller then has 10 days to file a Notice of Sale with the State with the purchasers contact info. You must then 're-title, pay your tax and register the boat. Your will not receive any credit for the existing
registration.
As it is currently moored in a marina, you will shortly be required to provide proof of liability/environmental
insurance. A recent
marine survey may be required to obtain such a policy.
If it is documented, the best course is to hire a transfer agent.
I was a recent seller of a similar vessel. It was pretty straight forward compared to the documented vessel procedure.
Congratulations. Hope it goes well.
