Buying a boat (lake Windermere)

Hey everyone

I'm completely new to sailing, always wanted to just never have. I want to start sailing on lake Windermere but know nothing on buying and owning a boat. I want to start with say a 30 footer so I will have the space for family that's important. I get a 30ftr maybe big to start with? I will be getting lessons and the correct training before trying anything solo.

Ok so I have a budget of £30,000 and have been thinking towards a Hanse 301, Beneteau 285 and Ronautica RO 265. I will be spending only a week or two at a time and mostly weekends on it. If anyone could please let me know what I need to do and how to go about buying one and costs I will be looking at in the area like anti fouling, winter storage and so on. Also should I get in a marina or on a swinging mooring? I don't plan on racing much at all on it more of just relaxing while sailing along the lake.

So yeah everything I need to know about buying a boat on the lake would be fantastic and thanks in advance.

Might be worth chartering a skippered yacht on the Lake, rates seem reasonable.
That way you get to find out if sailing really is for you and any family. And, with a skippered boat, you can pester the skipper to death with questions on boat upkeep and costs.

Re: Buying a boat (lake Windermere)

I've done power boating before at sea and as much fun as that can be sailings just always seemed to take my fancy, I basicly have two options a caravan or boat. I personally want to be on the water instead of boring land. Me and the other half just want something we can get away to when we are bored stiff and don't want to pay big money on a getaway home.

I will still look in to that, how do I go about finding one with a skipper and would I have to get a B&B for the night or would we stay aboard? Also If anyone does have a yacht around 30 or so foot on the lake can you give me the basic run-down on the costs per annual?

Thanks again

Google is your friend, search for yacht charter lake windermere.
Also, register with the YBW forum, which is a UK boating forum, and post same question, there are a couple of members on that forum with sail boats on the Lakes.
