Hi all,
I am new to the
boating life, and have a question to all you international boaters out there. I live in
Seattle, but have just taken up a
contract job in
Vancouver,
Canada. I've always wanted to live on a
boat and I thought here is my chance, since I will be traveling on a weekly basis from
Seattle to
Vancouver, stay about 3 days and then drive back to Seattle. So I plan to keep a
boat in Vancouver to live on for the 3 days a week instead of staying in hotels. This
project is going to last about 3 years.
So here is my question, do I buy the boat in the US and sail it over to Vancouver, and keep it there as a
live aboard, but what about
registration - I guess I'll need to "import" it, which will add to my
fees. Or do I buy it in
Canada, keep it there without importing it, but at the end of the
project, either sell it or
import it back into the US. Does anyone have any experience in moving boats across borders like this and the
registration /
import issues I'll have to deal with?
Thanks much!
