boat rides.

Any one have experience making any money at giving short boat rides?
There is a boat in charlavoix, michigan (sunshine cruises i think) that has been in business for years doing short boat rides.

Two things they have, a pretty ketch rig, and a slip on a busy boardwalk.
could this be a quick way to make some extra cash while cruising? you would need a captains license.

I've just been offered a job skippering a 50' yacht that specialises in short (45 minute or 90 minute with lunch) cruises on Auckland harbour. Pretty hard to believe that it's viable but apparently in good weather they have all 4 boats operating constantly so I guess it works and they've been in business over 24 years. Auckland has the advantage of fantastic sailing in almost all conditions. When I went up for my interview we backed out of the berth and had the main & jib up before we passed the end of the wharf so the tourists get maximum sailing in for their 45 minutes.
PS, had to have a brag about my new job. Will be living aboard my own boat, catching the ferry to work and spending a large part of each day sailing in one of the best sailing grounds around. And they're paying me for it????

Good on you. Is that one of the Pride of Auckland yachts? They seem to be out all the time. What a great job!!!

Yep, it's Pride of Auckland. Sue hit the wrong button on the puter while looking for temp work cheffing and this came up so destiny seemed to be with us. I get to play in someone else's boat.
