Anyone Doing Cybersecurity from Aboard?

Just wondering if anyone on CF does anything related to cybersecurity while cruising. I'm in a completely different business currently but wondering about the practicality of doing this from aboard my boat. Primarily interested in bug bounty.

Re: Anyone Doing Cybersecurity from Aboard?

I am working in this sector but primarily focused on security engineering and cryptographic systems. Working on the boat is absolutely possible, some of my work is even possible without Internet connectivity. It all depends on the actual project, e. g. timelines and required project team or customer coordination.

Re: Anyone Doing Cybersecurity from Aboard?

It's possible but depends on the type of work you are doing and whether it can work offline. I have a secure collaboration and messaging business but if one of my devs was on a boat it would be almost impossible without good connectivity.

Bug bounty might need a good connection to get the job done.

I teach via Zoom and FaceTime and Skype from my boat sometimes. But I use my LTE connection and it uses lots of data. No WiFi where I am.

It's doable

Hey thanks for the replies, everyone. This is encouraging. I think I'll be wise to just go to a marina when I want to work, certainly not the end of the world

Re: Anyone Doing Cybersecurity from Aboard?

you can anchor many places and work. I’m in IT and do it all the time. Zoom, presentations, collaboration, etc.. Just do it from LTE. When I first started doing it, i would scout areas first to make sure I have good cell coverage. I dont typically work on the move however, so I plan around weekends or afternoons off if I need to be sailing. FWIW, I’ve found cell coverage works until around 7 miles off shore.

I am in infosec in the PNW and found these cats (Technomedia) helpful for planning and preparing to stay connected in the states. These folks have been apart if vanlife and now liveaboards. They also seem like down cats who you would want to burn one down with.
