110' Wooden Schooner - Cheap!

These two big woodies were charter boats, now rotting along the seawall here at Marina Palmira in La Paz. Unfortunately, the schooner sank at her mooring a few weeks back, and after much todo, was raised. It has a couple of big diesels, that were perhaps under some water for a week. The forward mast was bent when a crane pulling on her foremast halyard, snapped the masttop shroud off at the chainplate. OOffaa. I was told they were for sale for $90k before the incident. Want a huge boat for practically nada? Good for communes, schools and Mormon patriarchs with a bunch of wives and kids. There is a ketch the same size, that hasn't sunk, at least within my presence.

So those are Gulets? Never heard the word. But think of the deal, all that boat for probably 30-40k, and it just needs some cosmetic sprucing up.

It would make a nice planter for the front yard.

Gulets are Turkish built vessels, usually wooden but come in all types. They tend to have a very particular style, ie very beamy motorsailors with very short rigs and a ridiculous amount of interior space and amenities. They are generally all built in Bodrum, Turkey. Popular for Med charters. The Ketch looks like it is definitely a Gulet, the very short rig, general shape, and aft paserrelle or gangway for med mooring are all dead giveaways. The schooner could be a Gulet or something else, IMHO. What a Gulet or Gulets are doing in Mexico is anybodys guess. Must be a story behind it.
