Who is open on Lake Ontario - Canadian side

If you want to cruise on the Canadian side of Lake Ontario and want to know where you can stay if you are from a yacht club with reciprocal visiting privileges.

Re: Who is open on Lake Ontario - Canadian side

I question whether that list is being maintained rigorously. For example, our club (LSYC) is not accepting reciprocals this year, yet there's no indication of that on the list.

I also wonder whether reciprocity reflects a club's current status. In other words, since our club is not accepting reciprocals, does that mean that our members won't be welcome at normally reciprocal clubs?

To anyone hoping to do some L Ont cruising this season, I strongly recommend calling or emailing all the clubs you hope to stop at, to confirm that you'd be welcome there.

Also would be a good idea to get your club to update its status on this site. No idea about reduced reciprocity. Our club, Whitby, is accepting people from clubs in Stage 3 areas so no Toronto/Peel clubs until last weekend. I guess anyone from Windsor would still be out of luck.

I did some checking between Whitby and Hamilton. About 2/3rds of clubs are open for reciprocal visits. Often their websites contain information but not always.

Also try https://ontariosailing.ca/feature/2020-reciprocals-amid-covid-19/
But best to call as some places are open with restrictions

Not open if coming from US. There is a travel ban in place by Canadian government for many countries, the US among them. And they're taking in seriously. Canadians will report to the Mounties.

The Ontario Sailing Association (OSA) also has a list on their website.

Second that come about where you come from. THE BOARDER IS CLOSED TO ALL FOREIGN TRAVELERS BY ANY MEANS. They just brought in stricter guideline for essential travel between the USA and Alaska including ID stickers and and not being allowed off the highway. You can fuel up at an automatic pump and be served in a drive through but that is all, not allowed in any building. Fins are now up to $5000 and 6 months jail time.

Confederation Basin (Kingston) is closed to transients. Seasonal boaters only.

Slightly different part of the website says they are open.

Well sort of. The Indian reservation across the st lawrence can do what they want, they always do.

And with The Rift being about a meter deep, one can walk from Wellesley Island NY to Bluff island ON.

Besides, it’s BORDERS and FINES in both countries. Though both counties do have BOARDERS and FINS.

Re: Who is open on Lake Ontario - Canadian side

OK I am at Portsmouth Olympic Harbor in Kingston. I am seeing many more transient boats docking than usual. I am told that is because Confederation Basin is full. There is no reciprocal right here though as these are municipal marinas. I sail around the area a couple times per week and during July I did not see many boats. Now in August there are boats everywhere. So I assume people took holidays in August. Lots of Quebecers and Toronto based boats.
