The ice is leaving?

The marina owner where we are wintered says the ice will be out by April 1. I am beginning to suspect an april fools joke here. The temps will certainly have to get warmer for that to happen.
Open water.... would be wonderful to see again, and to sail upon.
People have been joking around here about stationing a person on the bow with a chainsaw and sailing despite the hard water. Sounds like everyone is getting antsy for the ice to get going.
Cheers

I hate winter. The boat is iced in, it's cold so I don't work on it. What a waste of time winter is.

Winter

Yeh well I was I the process of moving the boat down to the erection shop and I got the rig stuck in the gumbo in the field and now it is raining, I was going to lift the boat up so I could get at the bottom of the keel and under the cradle pads. Could be August B4 we get unstuck. I have patched the crack in the rudder, faired the keel ( still have sanding to do ) had modifictaions made to the mast head and pintles, still waiting for a new strut to be built and have a new folding prop. The rest of the small stuff will have to wait till later.

I can actually believe the ice is leaving. There are cracks appearing out in the bay. The ice has assumed that grey colour it gets in its last throes.
We have on most days lately, got the boat open with fresh air running through.
The hum of ice eaters in the marina, has all but dissapeared.
Perhaps spring has begun to grace us with her precence.
Can sailing be far behind?
