SE FLORIDA TO CHICAGO

My neighbor here at the marina just informed me WE are going to take his 72' Viking form Ft lauderdale to Chicago. What route and distance are we looking at? Boat has 4.5' draft

With a 72', you are going to have to take the St. Lawrence Seaway. The height of the boat will exclude you from the Erie Canal route. I think the max bridge clearance is about 15 1/2 feet.

As Captain465 suggests, the boat’s air draft will be your limiting factor. Is the Viking a Motor Yacht, or a Sportfish/Convertible model?

Erie Canal Bridge Clearances:
Waterford to Three Rivers, incliuding Oswego Canal: 20 feet
Three Rivers to Tonawanda: 15.5 feet

Hello again everyone,

just found the answer to my own question ...... 17 ft. bridge on Chicago River and 19 ft. bridge on the alternate route. I wouldn't think they could go this way unless it is a very low motor yacht that the high stuff (masts, atennas, bimini tops, radar mounts, etc.) can be removed or lowered.
