Yes, I'm a new member today. My wife and I have cruised all the Great Lakes except Superior. I've put about 8,000 NM under her keel. Risque' is a 37' custom refit of a S37 Seidelmann. I'll post pix later.

New User in Sandusky Bay

Hi all,

I just registered today. I don't know if I can call myself a cruiser in my 23' Precision, but I do what I can around the Erie islands. I keep "Purr'n" in Sandusky Bay during the summer months.

PIB = Fun

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the welcome. I'll be heading over to PIB a few times this summer. I'm planning to do more weekend trips this summer when I can. Just staying for a night at other marinas and facilities sounds like fun. Last summer I spent my evenings in the marina with the exception of a night on the hook in the cove on the North side of Kellys Island. I'd like to do more of that while respecting the lake's temper, so for me other marinas or protected areas would be best. I'm looking at different GPS units and getting an additional anchor & rode to carry with me. Also a solar panel to charge my batteries, although if I'm only out a couple days it won't matter.

I hope I see you out this summer, but if not, have a good one.

Battery Park

Joli,

I'm in Battery Park during the summer. How about you, where do you slip your boat?

Jerry,

Nice to have a new member that is also a Great Lake sailor. We kept our boat in Leamington for years but moved it closer to home to Toledo Beach a couple of summers ago.

I stopped in at Battery Park this past summer (rib dinner at Damon's!) and was suprised to find that the wave pool next to the marina had closed. We used to go in to cool off during the hot July weather. The pool always made it a favorite stop for my two daughters. Why did it close - it always seemed like a popular place for the Sandusky residents.

Bad Pumps I'd Heard

Hi Slow Shoes,

I'd heard that the pumps went bad. Also that it would take $80k to get it operational again. Not sure if either are true, but as long as CP has the water park, I doubt it will reopen. The new downtown redevelopment plan removes it and replaces with condos or a hotel, I can't remember which. Do you have any problems with water depth over at Toledo Beach?

A strong, sustained westerly can put me on bottom, but most of the time I have about 7 ft at my dock. (I draw 5 ft). That's not as good at Leamington, where I always seemed to have 11 ft at my dock, regardless of what the wind was doing. Not having to cross the Ambassator (sp?) Bridge everytime I wanted to go to my boat is a huge plus for staying at TBM. though.

Hi. new guy here, I am at Bay View in Toledo Ohio with an Oday 30. Our club was dry the middle of February, the winds push that water all over don't they. I draw 3' 4" and have never been unable to get out, but this year may be different. I have been in Portland Oregon for the last 2 years and am looking forward to getting back.
