Yes, eating (and loving ) poutine is definitely one of the Canadian Citizenship tests.

And according to the Canadian Encyclopedia: "Poutine is a Canadian dish made of french fries topped with cheese curds and gravy. It first appeared in 1950s rural Québec snack bars and was widely popularized across Canada and beyond in the 1990s.”

Growing up in Ottawa I routinely walked across the River to get my fill of cheap booze and succulent poutine fresh from the chip wagons. I’ve never had NB poutine, but while I’m sure it’s great, the best is still to be had in La Belle Province.

Ah, I see we have the same problem .

I don’t consider anything that comes out of the mass market breweries to be real beer — at least not worth drinking. In fact, Molson ceased being Canadian in 2005 when it merged with Coors. It’s now called the Molson Coors Brewing Company. Ironically, it had been airing this commercial to great national success shortly before the merger:

Labatt is Canada’s other large national brewery. It too ceased to be Canadian in the mid-90s, selling out to Belgian brewery Interbrew.

According to the CBC there are 661,000 US voters living in Canada, many more than any other place in the world.

It must be a North American thing then. Or perhaps we are just that interconnected.

I must say, Canada is one of my favorite states.

I wouldn't mind trading Alaska for Ontario. Alaska is cold, ergo it should be part of Canada. Ontario is full of pretty normal people, besides which if it were part of USA we wouldn't have any screwball border that we ignore anyway.

It’s all good. We’re happy to share our artery-clogging cuisine with the world .

So come on over my American friends. I’d love to raise a pint (or two, or three…) with 30yearslater, or anyone else. But it has to be real pint, and it also has to be real beer, not that bubbly water laughingly called beer by Bud or Coors or indeed most of the stuff put out by our major Canadian breweries (which aren’t actually Canadian anyway…)

Cheers
Aarrghh, life is too short to drink bad 🍻 beer..

One of the best threads I have seen on CF! Along with Cpngeo, I too, have a dually but am hooked up with an Aussie dually which opens up a whole new set of opportunities. Aussie politics are as entertaining as American politics but only last a month or so, Like Canada.
Cheers, Phil

Re: American invasion of Canada rehearsal

As a Canadian living in the US there's no chance of me moving north, or rather south in some cases since part of Canada is south of New England, which seems odd. It's too cold, I prefer warm weather.

Re: American invasion of Canada rehearsal

Don't know how I missed this thread. I too am a dualie, of sorts. Mom was from Newfoundland, so we think we are Canadian, sometimes. Other times not so sure. But Newfoundland is a world apart.

We spent a couple of months in Quebec this summer, including the Magdeline Islands. That felt like a different country too.

Then there's St Pierre e Miquelon. A truly different. Oh try which every one forgets about.
