I just looked up the details, hadn't realized it was a Michael Moore film. For some reason that just seems to make it funnier.

And to get back to the comment (was it Mike O'R?) regarding beer - that's one of the issues that sets off the whole thing.

Anyway, had to be there. If you've seen the film you're probably already laughing; if you haven't you have no idea what I'm talking about.
I saw that movie. Hilarious. Now I have to watch it again. Thanks.

Oh guys (& gals), no, no NOOOOOOO!. Kokane? Molson Canadian!!, Labatts Blue!?!

This crap is no different than bud, coors, heineken, corona, all the rest

I’m talking real beer. Beer that tastes like something, not just bubbly water. Here’s a nice listing of breweries worth looking at:

Real Canadian Craft Beer Festival - Niagara Falls, Ontario

And yes … Love Canadian Bacon. Study it well my American friends (who want to flee north). It’s pretty much our citizenship test.

Re: American invasion of Canada rehearsal

Actually the crossing took place between Port Huron and Sarnia due to strong west winds. Sarnia Transit provided a bunch of buses for the wayward Yankees in order to get back to Port Huron. Now wouldn't that have been interesting if it had been the other way around?

Re: American invasion of Canada rehearsal

Nah - you don't want to have anything to do with Cobourg. Nasty people there. United Empire Loyalists :-)! They settled the Burgh.

Somehow the American insurgency came up earlier. Ever mindful that truth is the first casualty of war, and that history consists of the legends of the victors, what we know is this:

During the American insurgency the population of the 13 Colonies broke out roughly into equal thirds: 1) The Insurgents. 2) the Loyalists) and 3) the poor sods that just kept their heads down and hoped for the best.

The Loyalists all skived off for British North America under threat to their lives and suffering destruction or theft of their worldly goods. Our Viceroy of the time, Lord Dorchester (qui videt) rewarded them for their love of KGIII by giving every member of a refugee family 200 acres of free land AND the right to suffix their family name forevermore with the honorific "UE"

Here, UEs are counted heroes. South of the border, they are counted traitors :-) It might be noted that a goodly number of UEs were slaves who had the good sense to "run". Many of them settled in Nova Scotia where many of their descendants still live.

But what do I know - I'm just and interested observer ;-0)!

What I DO know is what a shipmate of long ago said had befallen him in Halifax NS in the late '43, when Halifax was the assembly point for the Atlantic convoys, and my mate was posted there as a lieutenant in the "wavey navy". The story involves a CPO USN and a coupla descendants of negro UEs. But the story is far from politically correct, so perhaps I'd better not tell it :-)

Ahhh, Pacifico, la cervesa mas fina... those words still ring in my ears!

But my favorite of the Mexican beers was and still is Bohemia... not available here in Oz, but plenty of good artisan beers are! I'm partial to Fat Yak IPA myself!

Jim

PS After considering things, I realized that the Canadians returned all those Yanks because they didn't want folks that dumb littering their shores!

Lizzie isn't on a fixed term. And she's hangin' in there lest Charlie should get a look-in :-)!

Mind you, he's calmed down a lot since he got past having to do stud-duty :-)

Sadly Mike, you are too far East to join us, think I'll bring Ninkasi Total Domination, Boneyard RPM, Hop Valley Citrus Mistress, and Double Mountain IRA...

TrentePieds, have you forgiven us for the Pig war? See you in May?

Rob Ford?

Anyway, that's the great thing about living on a boat. Next fall I can see myself making the run straight from St. Johns to Nassau, no matter who wins.

Re: American invasion of Canada rehearsal

Guinness drinker here.
OK, and real ale a la English Real Ale.

So~ Ive tasted a lot of beer in Canada. Trouble is, in the taste test the good ones are at the end of a long session and strangely enough the names cannot be remembered.

I was however strangely surprised that Carling Black Label, a mass produced lager was excellent. Beaten only by the brewery in the Isle of Man near England whose production of Carling Black Label was amazing.

I cant say the same about a local Toronto brewery who offered a "superlative example of the finest of Canadian Ales..." his words not mine, and was highly offended when I renamed his beer "sheep Dip". The other name that came to mind was KA KA.

Canada likes its beer strong. Molsons does not do it for me. Tasted like they left the iron bar in the glass.

Some great microbreweries, that once again memory fails on location due to a dedicated testing schedule....

Dont even get me started on the amazing octoberfests with fresh beer...

I love Canada.... Even the fried chicken and gravy is amazing.

Poutine is a lovely food once you are in the right mood! It helps to be 19 again, stay up very late partying ( or watching the election returns) and wait until you are overcome by a severe attack of the munchies. Just wash it down with all the free Bud Light you will find abandoned in large piles at the border crossing!

I'm a Canuck with AM/Can citizenship...If the Canadians were smart, they'd build a wall and make the U.S. pay for it.
