Re: American invasion of Canada rehearsal

Mike, thanks for posting that link. Prior to that, I hadn't a clue what this was all about.

Sounds like your authorities handled it way better than the American Homeless Insecurity chaps would have done in the same situation. Waterboarding interrogation, sleep deprivation and then loading up the jets bound for Guantanamo come to mind...

Re: American invasion of Canada rehearsal

Oh, yes, my American friends, we Canucks are way, WAY ahead of you. In anticipation of 08 November, we've just increased our "quota" for refugees to - what was it? - 300,000? AND reduced the education and skill levels required to obtain "Permanent Resident" status. So come on up :-)!

And the 49th parallel is the world's longest "undefended border" (so they say), so if 300K won't suffice - no sweat! Come on up anyway. It's an easy walk. Chief Sitting Bull did it. Just follow his example :-)!

Canada has a 250 year history - ever since the insurgency in the 1770s and 80s - of accepting American political refugees. So don't worry - we won't let you down this time either :-)!

Re: American invasion of Canada rehearsal

Seems like the last few invasions (both ways) have been very positive experiences! (Except for the White House burning back in the early 1800s... we bad!)

Maybe we should do these 'kinder' invasions more frequently!

As a sailor, I visit Washington State several times a year and have always enjoyed the people and places.

Having worked most of the last 15 years in the US, I have tremendous respect for the judgement and tenacity of Americans.

I know that whatever happens on Nov 8, they will figure it out and make it work!

Re: American invasion of Canada rehearsal

My family has had the conversation. Between uncontrolled global warming and the "southern" politics here, we are ready to make a go of it in beautiful Canada. Don't mind making less money. The price for pristine older boats is way less. And who wouldn't enjoy the beauty of the Quetico lakes or the coastal area of PEI and Nova Scotia. The Great Lakes offer their own wonders and the sailing season promises to get longer with time. See you soon!

Now that is all funnier than heck!

The problem with Canada is that the southern border is the US NORTHERN border! Ouch! Cold! Agony!

Besides, it's not an invasion, at least not till April. Until then it's a swap, since all the Canadians have taken over Florida.

Right behind you! A little later though. I just hope we escape before the wall goes up.

This will be an invasion the likes of which would make the Spanish Armada jealous. Yes indeed there will be Americans everywhere seeking asylum from the asylum. Get ready my Canadian neighbors for a whole lot more folks singing O' Canada. Don't worry if the lakes freeze we'll use iceboats or dogsleds. I love a good conspiracy theory.

Deal! I do have a fondness for Labatts Blue or if unavailable any Molson product. I also enjoyed immensely the practice of Piping Down the Sun while in Cobourg last August. I could get used to that town really easy. Cape Breton would also be a definite possibility.

Re: American invasion of Canada rehearsal

Okay, since we're into invasions in one direction or the other, hands up - who remembers the film "Canadian Bacon"?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Bacon

I just looked up the details, hadn't realized it was a Michael Moore film. For some reason that just seems to make it funnier.

And to get back to the comment (was it Mike O'R?) regarding beer - that's one of the issues that sets off the whole thing.

Anyway, had to be there. If you've seen the film you're probably already laughing; if you haven't you have no idea what I'm talking about.
