Airport Hopping from Green Bay to DC

Hi all,
Need to get from Green Bay, WI to Annapolis, MD with 30 foot sailboat. Can only sail/motor on weekends or long weekends before having to fly back to DC for work. Is it possible to dock within 30 miles of major airports based upon 48-72 hours of travel time?

Re: Airport Hopping from Green Bay to DC

I did that trip from Northern Lake Michigan to the Bahamas in a 28' sailboat. It took me more than a month to get to the Chesapeake as I recall. And that was either sailing or motoring from sunrise to sunset almost every day with a couple overnighters. Between the dockage fees and the airline tickets I'm sure it would be cheaper to have your boat loaded onto a trailer and delivered overland. Or just hire a delivery captain and then you can do some of the trip yourself.

Re: Airport Hopping from Green Bay to DC

G'day, mate. Good advice from Woodchuck to look at shipping it overland, but if you want the adventure here's a few thoughts, all weather dependent of coarse and going through the night:

1. GreenBay to Traverse City, MI.
2. Traverse City to Pt. Austin or Pt. Sanilac - might just be over your 30 mile limit. If you go down to Bay City, you will be closer to the airport, but you have to sail 30 miles back north out of Saginaw Bay before you turn back south again.
3. Pt. Sanilac to Detroit (you will have several option to tie up. You will have the current working for you at Pt. Huron
4. Detroit to Cleveland
5. Cleveland to Buffalo

I'll let you take it from there as you work your way through the Canal down to New York. All the best. Cheers.
