Yep, he's a scammer. I also replied to a post for an item that had already
sold fast. Skinnyship messaged me saying he had one too and was selling because of cancer. It seemed suspicious because when I looked at his profile, he had just joined the forum that same day and had zero posts. Also, he didn't have an ad running for the item. I messaged back asking for pics and description. Then he asked for my personal
email address. That's when I alerted the forum and they banned him pretty quick.
Nowadays, you have to have your
antenna up for everything online. It's amazing to me that someone figured out a scam like this on a
boating forum. It's really a shame, but it's reality.
I like the quote from Judge Judy: "if it doesn't make sense, it's probably not true."
In hindsight, I probably should have posted something alerting others on this site, but I didn't want to disparage someone without facts and I just found out from the forum admin that they banned him. Perhaps the forum can alert us, if this happens again
