Not sure if this is too late but I have two Barlow 27-46 2 speed winches that have been cleaned, inspected, rebuilt new pawls, springs and greased appropriately. Machine oil on pawls, Harken winch grease on gears - not overly greased. I very carefully paid attention to not get any dust of any kind into the grease and had

I have some photographs of the process. The gears are in great condition. Ready to go for another 30 years +. A weeks work put in to servicing these properly.
