Raymarine / Raytheon Autopilot Head ST 600x or ST700x
Anyone out there upgrading their autopilot this year?
Our old head has died and I'm looking for the control head (instrument) only. Any of the following Raymarine / Raytheon models will work:
ST6000, ST6001, ST6002
ST7000, ST7001, ST7002
Please let me know f you have one for sale!
Cheers- Matt

Re: Raymarine / Raytheon Autopilot Head ST 600x or ST700x
Is the head dead (non functional) or just the display?

Mostly dead. The buttons work intermittently and the display is fully gone. Holds a course sometimes, but the heading is offset from the what is entered. It may need to be recalibrated, but the display is gone, so can't do that.... Why do you ask?

Re: Raymarine / Raytheon Autopilot Head ST 600x or ST700x
I asked because you can get just replacement LCDs or the whole head. Often its just the LCD.
Heads are on eBay of course. I can post a contact for the LCD if you want it.
Offset on heading is likely just calibration of fluxgate compass (swinging the compass). See calibration procedure in manual.
Some times the buttons, small switches actually, just need cleaning.

Re: Raymarine / Raytheon Autopilot Head ST 600x or ST700x
I have a 7001 control head that we keep for a spare (SeaTalk vs SeaTalkNG) as our entire system is SeaTalk. I'm glad to part with it, but we're in the NE Caribbean and will not be back to St Thomas (shipping) for another week or so. Its in good condition, and everything works, but there is a little sunburn on the face. Let me suggest, as an alternative, to but a P70or P70S control head, cut the end of the included SeaTalk NG connector cord, peel it back, and connect the red, black, and bare wires to the same color in your SeaTalk wiring. It works!!! It's what we're running, with no issues.

Sorry----you need to connect the yellow wire, too. Red-for power, black-for gnd, yellow-for signal, and bare-system ground.

There is an ST6002 control head listed on Kijiji in Ontario ( Canada ). It has been in the site for a while. With weak Cdn dollar it may. E a good deal. Mail costs are not much.

Matt:
We upgraded a couple of years ago and I still have the Autohelm ST6000 control head. It was working fine when we upgraded. We are located in Michigan. Let me know if you are interested.

Good to know! The raymarine tech site says you need a couple of converters to make it work, but if cutting the cable does the job, I'm all for a cheaper solution.

Tom- That's the older style black/ red head, right? Or is that the newer grey case type? I'd prefer the 7000 series as that will fit the old hole better, so I'm sending a note to Conchfritterz, but if that doesn't work out, I may be in touch. Thanks!
