Raymarine Autohelm ST4000 MK1 Autopilot Wheel Drive

I acquired this used but working wheel drive and decided to re-condition it rather than let it clutter up the shop.

I opened it up and -
cleaned & painted
lubed (only where recommended)
replaced the drive belt with new one,
replaced the main drive motor sprocket
Dissassembled, inspected the motor main gearbox (to confirm the 22 planet gears were good)
Tested drive motor (strong motor)

This would make an excellent spare or a direct replacement unit.

Price is $214.50 plus shipping paid via PayPal.

The ST4000 is rated for boats 15,000 lbs to 17,000 lbs displacement.

Assume every one knows this is only the wheel drive unit. Will not work as a standalone. Must have control head, course computer and compass.

Just an add on. A control head from an older 3000 unit or later if it has the compass built in will work with the drive. The drive just goes left or right depending on the signal from the control head. So this would make a very good upgrade for an older unit.

I now have all Raymarine electronics on my boat including A Raymarine C80 Multi display Chart plotter with compase and a Raymarine I60 Wind transducer installed on my boat. What else would I need to use your auto pilot parts?
How much $$ do I send through PayPal to cover for the unit and transport?

Wow way to much equipment. I think I am better off purchasing a new CPT unit at 1900$ At least that way I will know it will work.

I carried this setup as a spare on a long cruise. I did not want to lose use of the autopilot, due to something breaking. A Raymarine tech told me AP failures are primarily due to broken belt, or the small wheels holding the belt. A friend also had his fail due to UV and the large plastic ring falling apart. Next line in failure is the motor. Tech said less likely to fail are the display/board, and the compass.

So this setup would be a good spare of the mechanical pieces in the system. Wrap it in bubble wrap, tuck it away under a bunk, and hope you never need it. But will be glad you have it if you do need it!
