Re: need A windlass
Sorry to hear about the theft, that bites!!!
As to a replacement. Get a Maxwell Vertical, & mount it just AFT of the chainlocker so that the motor & such are in a dry compartment, seperated from the chain. There are some example pics here --> http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...on-162683.html
One like this Maxwell VW Series VW1500 Vertical Windlass

Re: need A windlass
1982 36' Cape Dory needs one too. I want a vertical with a capstan. Boat is 16K lbs. Maxwell seems to be highly rated.

Re: need A windlass
With the motor below and the rest above, not sure how you'd NOT drill holes in the deck.

What make/model windless did you have? Does your statement mean no "additional" holes?

He had a windlass with an above deck motor. Otherwise they would not have been able to steal it. He does not want another hole for the motor drive shaft. Remember to bolt on a windlass in a way that makes it theft proof.

Just a note...this is why you should use carriage bolts for above deck installs.

Re: need A windlass
OP, it sounds like you want an exact replacement. It would help if you told us what the original one was, so that we can help you find a replacement.

Yup, that is what I asked but seaman-lew now seems to be MIA.
CS, thanks for the carriage bolt tip. Seems everything has to be bolted down to avoid growing legs but then you have to use the right bolts! Dang!

Re: need A windlass
we are in Reynolds marine but out boat was stripped in Ft Lauderdale. I have heard GCS thefts what boat is yours.
o\on the freedom 45 there is a deck locker for the windlass with a hole. I may have to drill another hole in the locker but I won't drill a deck hole. I don't need an exact replacement just something that fits
the picof the windlass looks like what was in the boat
and I am not MIA

That makes sense. My friends bene is the same way. You lift a deck "door" to expose the chain locker and the windlass is right there. So no matter what style bolts you use, a POS thief can get at it. The AH is going to have to sell it and I hope they get caught.

Re: need A windlass
We heard of thefts’ in GCS, but we are in Reynolds, beside our boat was ransacked in Ft Lauderdale.
What boat are you on.
This is a windlass on another freedom 45
I don’t mind drilling holes in the locker
We need something that works.
I may have a job if I do I will but the best if not I hope to find something
But I am not MIA
