Monitor Self-Steering Wind Vane
I have a Monitor self-steering wind vane for sale. We bought it used and rebuilt it, so it has many new parts. We unfortunately did not get to use it - our cruising plans changed.
I am in Northwest Florida. You can pick it up or I will ship. I will accept cashier's check or Paypal (or cash if you pick it up).
$2,500
Call or text 850-339-2038.

I bought a used Monitor, pre 1992, and added the strut reinforcement at minimal cost. Excellent product.
No comment on the price.

Re: Monitor Self-Steering Wind Vane
I have one of these and it steers My 40 ft sloop better then me. Was perhaps one of the best investments I put on the boat and can’t imagine long distance sailing without.

Also it is 306 stainless not 316 which is on newer units.

I think you mean 304, not 306

Really?...These are approaching $6k now. Try to find any self-steering unit less than this unless it's some old funky Aries, missing parts that you cannot find anymore. The 304 unit can have crevice corrosion more so than the 316. But I can tell you one thing...when you don't have to steer on a multi day passage, you will be grateful for every dollar you paid for it.

Re: Monitor Self-Steering Wind Vane
I have no argument against Monitors (I've owned one) or Aries (I've owned one) or WindPilot Pacifics (I own one now) or wind vanes in general. I am just pointing out that the more recent Monitors use 316 stainless. If the vane is in good condition, it is certainly worth $2000-$2500.

Re: Monitor Self-Steering Wind Vane
I have a 43’ 36,000 lb double ender. Would this work on my size boat with a canoe stern?

Absolutely. Go to the Scanmar web site and see if your boat is shown. There are many examples of a Monitor on a canoe sterned vessel. Scanmar has excellent customer service and will sell you the stainless tubes you need to adapt a used Monitor to your boat.

If the OP will provide the serial number (every unit is serialized) you can contact Scanmar and they will provide the year and month of manufacture along with the history of the unit if they were contacted subsequent to its sale.
