Re: Lifepo4 100Amp 1280 watt hour. Batteries $450

What is a watt hour?
1 amp at 1 volt is 1 watt.
If I use 13.8 volts (12 v system), then 1 amp for one hour is 13.8 watt hours?
Is that right?

100 Amps 12.8 volts = 1,280 watts
I don’t understand your question

The question is about the term "watt/hour". It is an obscure term and we normally talk about amp/hours.
One hour at 100 amps at 12.8 volts = 1280 watt/hrs.
Converted to amp hours, 1280 watt hours is about 92 amp hours.

With Lifepo4 batteries, I assume you can draw them down lower than the 50% limit for flooded or gel. So will not need as large battery bank.

Thank you!
I’m getting the information you are referring to from the provided label from the cell and battery manufacturer.
If you look at the picture of the label they provided you will find the information as I listed.

Sorry but I think this is a flaw and a problem with many posts I see.

Specifying the amp hours means absolutely nothing unless you also specify the voltage. One cannot (or at least no longer) assume everything is 12v.

Wattage is wattage is wattage.

OK, Now I see your issue! I stand corrected in that I failed to state “12 volts” in my description.
The picture of the manufacturers label clearly states 12 volts so I think your being nit picky.
Good day to you!

Sorry to tread on your ad. I had never heard the term "watt/hour" used before. Your batteries appear to be less than half the retail (or list) price.

Good day to you!

Your 1280 Wh (note the captial letter!) IS one correct way to specify battery capacity. But you do also need to specify the nominal voltage of any battery (in this case 12V).

But what does the 100 Amps represent? Maybe it's the maximum current draw? Or the maximum charge rate? It obviously can't be anythig to do with capacity since Amp is the base unit used to measure energy flow rate, nothing to do with total energy.

Re: Lifepo4 100Amp 1280 watt hour. Batteries $450

Geez, I'm sure he meant 100Ah - as it's clearly visible on the battery in the picture.

It's an add for a battery - not an EE bachelors thesis.

It's a cheap Chinese battery - you get what you pay for, buy in this case you might actually get a chunk more than the average going rate.
The batteries are offered at a very decent price!
It's close to being competitive to FLA.

Got a spec sheet? Or BMS model number lacking spec sheet?
Any certifications like UL, etc?
Thermal limit sensors (hi and low)?
Max Discharge rate?
Max Charge rate?
Warranty if any?

Re: Lifepo4 100Amp 1280 watt hour. Batteries $450

Watt-hour is a much more useful and less confusing term than Amp-hour mainly because it's not dependent on voltage. 1200 Watt-hours at 12v, 13.8v, 120v, or 240v are identical amounts of power consumption.

This isn't a big deal with 120V or 240V AC. But it becomes a big deal with battery systems and an inverter. running some AC items.

If I'm running a 1200W heater on 120V through an inverter on a 1200W battery bank, I know it's going to draw a little more than 1200W from the battery. The extra is due to inverter inefficiency. So in less than an hour, I'd completely drain the battery.

If I measure in Amps, a 10 amp heater on 120V = roughly 100Amps on a 12V battery. A watts always a watt, an amp depends on the specified voltage.

Re: Lifepo4 100Amp 1280 watt hour. Batteries $450

Ignorance is bliss. Ignorance of ignorance on the other hand...

It is a 12V, 1,280Wh battery, perfect and most correct label. 12V 100Ah is still acceptable, 12V 100A is not, even though it is an often made mistake.

It can really go wrong when people claim to have a 24V 1,200Ah bank when it is only a 600Ah bank. They double it to compare with 12V, instead of using the preferred measurement of capacity, the Wh or kWh.

You guys can all debate amps, watts and voltage. It can be confusing, it's a learning curve. If you haven't made the curve please don't install yourself. I'm only interested in physical dimentions
