Free: Laser sailboat free to forum members

I have a recreational Laser that I will pass on to any forum member who wants a family trainer and can come get it in the Florida panhandle.

I modified this Laser to overcome the class's greatest weakness for recreational use - you can't drop the sail when you launch or return to the beach, because the sail threads over the mast. This one furls (see the photo). It could be returned to class rules by removing the rings and replacing the cockpit drain with a class-legal model.

Located in Carrabelle, Florida, about 50 miles south of Tallahassee. You will need a trailer; she can be moved on just about any utility flatbed or small boat trailer. Comes with all the parts, but will need some cleaning up since it has been sitting. Has lift rings for getting on and off our big boat.

We've got too many toys and not enough time for all of them. If this one can help some kids learn to sail, let's go for it. On sale locally for $300.

I am very interested, I have a 6 year old daughter that loves helping me work on our sailboat ( still a year or so from being sail ready) , and I would love to come to get it ( I am in Miami/Ft Lauderdale, but given currently laid off, could come to get it).
This could be a great way to get her sea legs going. Not to mention something constructive to do while she is now homeschooling with the Corona Virus shutting down schools etc.
Please let me know what I would need to do to take you up on your offer,

You should require it go to novices just learning to sail.

Probably one of the best learn to sail tools out there.

I considered myself a capable sailor with bluewater cruising experience in the Bahamas and the Virgins. Then I got a Laser and learned more about upwind, downwind, reaching and balance with that little boat than I ever did on 40' foot boats!

It looks to me like it is a full rig mast and a radial rig sail. My son grew up racing lasers. Females never go to full rigs and guys race radials until about 160 lbs or more if dealing with strong winds. I have never seen a Laser with those rings. Smart. In fact kids starting on lasers usually start with what is called a 4.7 sail. Usually after they learn to sail in Optis or 420's.

Question: What did you use for the rings to attach the sail to the mast.

I have a SAROCA sailboat that was designed the same way - can’t drop the sail.

I'm interested in your Laser I had a Lagoon 39 & I had to sell it because I couldn't afford the payments with my wife losing her job so we've been jonesen to sail & our friends all have small boats & hang out on the sand bars down here in Palm Beach County so we could sail over there & back across Lake worth I could pick it up with my friends small tailor this weekend you can call me any time 561-847-1644

Damn, I’m actually looking to purchase on of these for my daughter to use on our lake here in Michigan. There is a sailing club on our lake that she has a blast at each summer for a couple weeks. We took her on her first real sailing adventure this past summer in Sweden and on day 5 she came up to me and gave me a hug and said she had a nightmare that the sailing trip was over. LOL, wish you were closer because I’d pay top dollar. Some kid is going to be very happy!
