Thanks for looking. I'm clearing out my storage unit to feed the cruising kitty and upgrade my boat , and have decided to sell this Hydrovane unit.

It is new , and unused. I bought from a boatyard before they crushed the boat. Typical story: The sailor was building his dream ... and the dream , his age and health sadly got away from him.

It is the new VXA2 model

This Hydrovane was in the cabin , never mounted or used . The mounts were halfway mounted on the hull outside.

There is just tiny bit of wear on the vane cloth from being moved around then cabin. (see pic)

It is a complete unit minus 1/2 of the "H" bracket. I searched and searched, it's nowhere to be found.

If your transom will work with the short shaft? Then today is your lucky day. You may need a different shaft size , and possibly different mounts depending on your application.

I spoke with Hydrovane yesterday. They very extremely friendly and helpful , and even offered to give me a nice credit to trade in the wrong sized items for my boat , for one's that would work. (In my case , the rudder and shaft .. I have a 32 ft. Schooner , and the heavy rudder would be WAY overkill)

We have:

VXA2 drive unit $3197.
PA6 Heavy rudder for large boats $1307.
Stubby Vane $ 452.
Shaft S Short 34 inches $ 764.
1/2 H mount $ 300.
E single strut mount $ 651.

Total new from Hydrovane $6,668.

2 mount standoff pads and misc. mounting hardware included as well.

Asking price : $5,500. plus shipping

This is obviously bulky and pickup or delivery would be better than shipping

I will deliver up to 100 miles from the Tampa Bay Area on my dime.
Also , I am visiting family THIS WEEK in the Miami / Ft. Lauderdale area , and will also deliver up to 100 miles from Miami / Ft. Lauderdale on my dime.

More circumnavigations have been done with a Monitor than any other self steering devise. Perhaps the Aries in a close 2nd. Both are great units, and they don't put the load/strain on the transom that a Hydrovane does. But any of those three will get you where you are going. I've owned a Monitor and and Aries (on different boats) and been most happy with each.

This is definitely true.The Monitor is the most popular and proven , with Aries a close second.

My guess is that if a Monitor is good enough for Randall Reeves on his 45 foot S/V Moli doing a 40,000 mile figure 8 of the earth, including the Northwest Passage, it will be more than good enough a unit for any adventures any of us are planning to undertake.
