Thanks for looking. Up for grabs is this Hamilton Ferris & Co. Neptune Supreme water powered tow generator. It is perfect working condition and comes with everything shown , including spare bearings and brushes for the generator motor. Generates approximately 5 amps per hour at 5 knots. Removed from my boat as it is un-needed. The unit is complete with the exception of a mount for the generator that is just a small piece of plywood with a hole drilled for the mounting post.

Asking $499. or a reasonable best offer.

pick up is available in the Tampa / Saint Petersburg area.
Shipping in the US will be approximately $40-50.

Hi, lazystar,

We used one for years, usually got about 6 amps at 6 knots. Used to heave to to retrieve it. Kept the batteries charged up well over night.

Kind of fun to generate your own electricity.

Yes. They work well! I hope l don’t kick myself later for selling, but there are other boat projects that needs attention right now.

The Model is Neptune Supreme. It’s at least 20 years old.

When was the last time you used it?

I haven't needed it. The previous owner used it roughly 10 years ago.

Hi Lazystar;

Just so I understand, you believe it works because the previous owner used it and told you it did, but you can't attest to that because you have never used it yourself?

Or, it was tested as part of the purchase survey sea trail where you yourself saw it working?

The previous owner , who is a very close friend of mine , and I spoke about the generator in detail. I had questions about that piece of gear in particular, because he used it on 2 of his Atlantic crossings.
He spoke very highly of it , and told me it was in fine working condition.
He also spoke of heaving to , to retrieve it as did the poster above.

Have you spun the generator with a drill to confirm voltage output?

I have not. I haven't had the time , or ability to. That being said, I actually trust the previous owner.
