We've just returned from a holiday that included San Francisco CA, Huston TX, Panama City, Colon, Portobelo, Columbia, Quito, Galapagos, and a few other places so, I don't think you should be pointing fingers at Canada regarding high prices and taxes.
We found prices were high wherever we went. The only way to lower cost of travel is to buy your items at the local grocery and do your own catering but that is hard to do when travelling.
As for price of souvenirs, forget it. Much of the junk in US stores was the same Chinese junk we see here in Canada. Clothing prices were also high all over, and also 'Made in China'.
I could say a whole lot more but what's the use of complaining? We were on holiday and having a great time.
Just remember Ya can't take it with you! Besides, it helps the economy along. Money is just so much colored paper and has no value at all until you spend it.

...and every US dollar gets you $1.35 Cdn...that should help with our "higher" prices and taxes. I expect used Canadian sailboats to be quite popular with foreign buyers (US) this year.

Parks Canada really is waiving all park entry fees. There is some concern that the big crowds might have an adverse affect on the parks wildlife habitats.

And if thats not enough to bring you to Canada, then maybe our pot stores will. A new Canna Green store just opened up on lower Princess Street in Kingston (a short walk to Confederation Basin Marina). Yes, now you can buy pot here too. Thank you Justin Trudeau.

I believe you are mistaken. Website is still up for free passes and they shipped mine to the US.

Sorry about that, didn't mean to spread false information, guess i was misinformed. However, if everyone who enjoys the great outdoors take up this offer of free access to our parks, I can see whereby they will be overwhelmed and unable to cope with the numbers. It was hard enough before to book a camp site without the masses that can be expected with a free pass. I just don't see it happening and I'm sure there'll be a lot of disappointed people. All they will do is as they have done in the past and that is to put a sign at the entrance ... "CLOSED. Sorry, Park Full" ... I can see it now.

FREE is for park entry...I would think you still have to pay for campsites, docking, and other services. However, most people just want to go in and have a look around, go for a wilderness walk or whatever...and that is free. I read that you do need a pass, but the pass is available on site, free. Like you, I also sent away and got mine early.

You got it. Entry is free. Locks are free. Camping and docking/mooring is not.

I ordered my pass not too long ago and it came within a couple of weeks. Go to:

If all canadians sail to America to get away from Canada, even running to cuba, and stay for years, why would anyone actually want to visit there?

75% of all Canadian's live within 100 mile's of the U.S. border. It does make one wonder?

Only about 12.6 million Americans in 2015

Actually, with the U.S. Travel Association warning of a growing “Trump Slump” in tourists coming to the US, places like Canada are expecting to see a real surge in numbers.

Only if you come over as a refugee . And it helps if you cross at some remote, frozen location:

Another 22 refugees brave cold to illegally cross U.S.-Manitoba border
