While I do not pretend to be any kind of expert, I’m a newby and thank God have never been in a survival situation,and hopefully never will.
However I have two drogues, one for slowing as you say and as an emergency steering system, if something happened to my steering, and another much larger, different kind of drogue that is meant for basically that situation that I Hope to never be in.

Both were bought used and had never been deployed, hopefully one day I’ll be selling them, with them never having deployed.
