Free: various old electronics - B&G Hydra 2, Garmin VHF, Furuno radar etc etc

I have spent the last 2 months yanking basically every single piece of equipment related to navigation, instrumentation, communication etc off of our 1995 Contest 46 and replacing with new NMEA2000 equipment. Much of it was original to the boat, some of it came later. Some definitely worked, some didn't, others were not tested. I will note what I know about each piece below. I am happy to give this stuff to anyone that can make use of it- you just pay the actual shipping costs from St. Petersburg, FL. My strong suggestion would be to view this stuff as spare parts for an existing system in your boat rather than something that you should build a "new" system around. I wasn't a total brute as I removed it from the boat, but my incentive was expedience rather than keeping long wiring runs in tact so most data cables etc were cut. I measured approximately 1300' of data and power cable in the pile that I removed, so you can understand the problem.

Parts available:

- B&G Hydra 2 instruments and autopilots
-- B&G Processor - worked. Central brain that all the B&G stuff linked back to.
-- B&G autopilot processor - worked, except for the note below
--hydra compass - AP showed a fault (#105) last time we used it, which is related to compass, but did not investigate. It still showed heading some it seems like the compass was working at least partially
-- hydra autopilot controller/display
-- hydra autopilot remote control
-- hydra multi-function instruments displays x2 - both worked. One cable I cut off only an inch from the back, so splicing will take some creativity.
-- Analogs wind and speed gauges x4 - did not work. Did not investigate so much just have been bad connections at the ECU.
-- anemometer/wind transducer - working
-- 41mm depth and speed transducers - depth worked, speed needs a new impeller at a minimum

- Furuno radar and CRT display - display would fire up, but could not get radar to transmit. I did not attempt to investigate

- RR Electronic AV-205 and AV-302 VHF splitter

- Shakespeare VHF antenna

- Phillips AP Navigator display and antenna - did not work. Didn't investigate.

- MasterVolt Power System Control Panel - did not work. Didn't investigate.

- Si-Tex AIS receiver - Did not attempt to use

- Shipmate external VHF speaker - worked

- Vtronix 24v input 12v output Voltage Converter - 12amp continuous - did not attempt to use

- Magnetronic DCC 4000 battery monitor - did not attempt to use

- Garmin VHF 300 black box system - everything worked but the sheathing on the handsets is falling off and my insurance company took issue with the note on the survey. Cannot find replacement handsets so opted to replace.
-- Black box
-- GHS10 handsets x2
-- power and remote station cables

Send me a private message if you want any of this stuff and we can arrange shipping. All I ask is that you don't resell the things that have value (like the VHF) as I am specifically opting to give it all away in the hopes that it can be useful to people in this community.

Cheers,
Will

Re: Free: various old electronics - B&G Hydra 2, Garmin VHF, Furuno radar etc etc

UPDATE - just about everything has been spoken for. I need to spend some time sorting through PMs and figure out who's getting what and get them shipped out.

I'll create a new thread if anything is left over since I can't edit the original post.

MODS - it would be great if you would make posts in this forum editable. It's really annoying that I can't edit the original post to scratch off the stuff that's gone.

The forum software doesn't work that way. Update the thread with a new post with what is available if you'd like. Or you can ask that the thread be archived and create a new thread with what is left.

Maybe one day soon. We nixed going cruising again this year thanks to Covid, and it turned out to be a great opportunity to be able to work remotely and plug away at projects on the boat (like replacing all the electronics). We'll see what 2021 holds.
