Con-rod for YSE-8

Looking for a used straight conrod for Yanmar YSx-8, preferably located in Australia.

I assume from this post that the tear down revealed some issues! Good luck in the search.

Well I already have a bent one...
And I got half of a straight one - missing the end cap; but my straight one won't live with the end cap of the bent. Some blended families just don't work

Gay jokes aside, good for you on finding that. How bent was it?

Visible (just) to the eye (even my eyes).

I had located another one (straight) but the end cap wasn't with it. I tried the first end cap and it looked OK to the naked eye but when the engine shop set it up to check, they advised the tunnel specs were out by 6+ thou in a manner that they couldn't resolve. I don't have the exact details why it was unrecoverable but I trust them.

Meanwhile the hunt is on for the missing (matching) endcap and/or a another rod.

FWIW, Jim's humour is partly directed at our current national survey on the same sex marriage issue. If it helps me find a suitable partner for the piston/crankshaft marriage, then all is good

Yes it's the same. Let's see if I can get one in Oz but if not, then I might have to take you up on the offer.

Err... what's the lizard

There is a source of used Yanmar parts in NSW but they are pretty spendy...

Re: Con-rod for YSE-8

Con rod caps would never be interchangable between different rods. Do you have caps that have just a flat mating surface? If so I'm surprised it can't be re-built. Hot rod shops do it all the time. They grind the ends and hone the bore round again.
Some rods and caps are splined together so you couldn't really resize that style.

Can you elaborate on this some more?

Are you saying that the caps (with flat mating surfaces) would never be interchangeable unless they were rebuilt or that they are never ever interchangeable?

I understand that in the normal course of rebuilding you need to keep the cap matched to it's original rod but I'm unsure what can and can't be achieved with a mismatched pair.

Stand down Atoll .

The good news is that the errant missing end cap has been located in the dusty dark recess of a large shed of various engine and boat bits. It will be reunited with its rod next week and the next step of the rebuild can proceed.

Thanks to all who have posted

Re: Con-rod for YSE-8

Supplementary question.

I have been advised by some that I should replace the rod big end bolts with new ones. I hadn't considered this before and while after market bolts are probably available, they will take some hunting down. I'm not brave enough to price Yanmar ones!

The existing ones look OK.

Thoughts???
