Bronze manual windlass

I’m hoping to find a bronze manual windlass of the ABI or Plath style. Would anyone out there happen to have one to sell? Thank you!

That Moritz looks so rad and beefy. I think it's probably a little too large for my scene though. Really hoping to find a Plath/ABI style. Thank you for the heads up!

Re: Bronze manual windlass

I don’t know if you’re still looking for an ABI or Plath but I have one of the ABI’s in good shape. I think they’re a copy of the Plath 7.
Mine isn’t polished like the one in your pic, but you could have it polished to look like that if you wanted.
It’s always worked for me with a 45lb anchor and 5/16” BBB all chain rode.

A side note: Moritz Brass Foundry was a SoCal, (Orange County,) company that furnished those windlasses to several boat companies.
Back in the '70s it was common to see them on lots of those Tiawan sailboats like the CT41, (et all).
They showed up on several Alajuela 38s too, (those Alajuela elliptical portlights were made by Moritz also).
The windlass you're looking at/for were made by ABI/Plath/Ideal.
On my dock there is a boat with an Ideal and one with an ABI.
Only the cast-in Ideal logo could differentiate between them without close inspection.
Good piece of kit.

Bacon's in Annapolis, Maryland, has one for sale right now on their floor. $600 if I remember right, I was just there a week ago.

Bronze manual windlass

I’ve seen the one Svquerida has for sale. It seems to be in excellent condition and it has the hawse pipe with cover. That’s a big plus. Personally I like the weathered patina.

I just drove down to LA and bought it from him. Seems to be in really great shape. I’m so stoked! And Svquerida is a really nice and helpful guy as well!
