Re: 60 Lb. Genuine CQR

If you can not find one, Manson makes the same anchor, I suppose under license. I have one--and it has never failed to set and re-set. In fact I have two--and although one is only 30 pounds in weight, it holds well too.

Manson is the ONLY alternative--if you can not get the real thing. All of the other plough types are just ploughs that furrow the sea bed and do not seem to bury deeply enough. They are responsible for so much of the bad press--but this kind of anchor, as do all kinds really, needs at least a five to one scope and/or a kellet attached. A kellet is ALWAYS a good idea as I see it, particularly in a blow where it softens the effect of a chain rode..

Having said that--I would still go for a Manson Supreme instead. More holding power still for the same weight--

Manson is a New Zealand company which I believe make only anchors. The Kiwis are great at all things nautical.

My option is to seriously redesign the anchor platform so that the anchor stows on the end of the sprit, live with an ill-fitting modern anchor, or use an oversized CQR. The CQR has worked fine for me in the past and for many many others. Maybe I should change the spelling so there will be less search hits on CQR. See-Qu-Arrrrrrg. The preferred anchor of pirates everywhere.
I was about to say why but glad you explained your reason.
We hate our manson plough. Only time it gets used is in weed/kelp as that clogs our home design ss danforth style anchor.
Just because we hold the Americas cup doesn't mean that everything made here works perfectly sadly

Re: 60 Lb. Genuine CQR

I have a 60# CQR for sale and it is posted on the Richmond Craigslist. $200. I'm on the south side of the Potomac about 6 miles up from the Chesapeake. I think it is a good anchor, it was always good to me; my buddies persuaded me to buy a Manson from another buddy. Maybe we are a match. 214.546.8788

Have you checked Bacon in Annapolis? They usually have a whole flock of CQRs for sale in the warehouse although most of them are probably 45’s. I’d also check Craig’s List.

And the CQR is an excellent anchor for the Chesapeake. They love the mud there for whatever reason.

Yep. bacon’s only had 45’s and a 75. A 60 lb. is what I really need.

Had to happen, someone simply wants a good CQR and the next post tries to tell him he shouldn't have one. We use a 60lb CQR on our 15 ton high windage center cockpit ketch. It always sets on first try, and current/wind changes never bother it.

Re: 60 Lb. Genuine CQR

I have a genuine, real deal 60 lb CQR down in Shady Side (just south of Annapolis) that I'll be selling right after I buy a new anchor at the boat show in October.

If you don't mind waiting a few weeks, we should be able to make a deal.

PM me if you're interested.

Re: 60 Lb. Genuine CQR

I do have a 30 kg(66 pounds) genuine CQR. It has been hot re galvanized and stored since. In perfect order. The price would be $US 250.00, plus shipping at cost From Vermont or Canada.
