1/2" Teak Faced Marine Plywood - 2' x 2' South Florida

I'm looking to buy a small 2'x2' piece of 1/2" marine grade teak plywood. I have no use for, can't transport and don't want to spend the money on a whole 4'x8' sheet. A full sheet is approx. $200 at World Panel.

Does anyone have a piece they would be willing to sell me? I'll pickup in South Florida. Thanks.

Flipper,

I’m not sure where you are in S Fl, but you could ask Shell Lumber in Miami. They have a great selection.

Where are you in south Florida? I’ve got some veneer you can have around the Sarasota area.

Hmmm, You have a Hallberg Rassey 53' which sounds like a million dollar boat to me (maybe more) and you're worried about 200 bucks? Just get the full sheet and have them cut it down to sizes you can move - they'll probably charge you a couple of bucks to do this but it beats the hell out of wasting your time looking for something you'll have to go pick up anyway. AND, if you mess this project up, you'll have enough left over for a second try.

Maybe the reason he can afford a Hallberg is because he doesn't waste money on things he doesn't actually need... lol Just a thought.

Call intercity lumber in Tampa, Fla. It is family owned, and they specialize in custom mill work, and wood like teak. It is a third generation run family business and they are very fair and reasonable. Ralph, the owner, is one of my best friends (we went to college together) and an avid boater. He will be able to help you. Ask for Ralph, and tell him Ben recommended them. If you're going to call, let me know, and I will give Ralph advance notice.

Try Maritime Wood products in Stuart FL. They might have some small pieces. Not sure where you are located but we have used them in the past.

If you are close to Ft. Lauderdale, try Sailorman. They may usually have scraps and may have what you need.

Re: 1/2" Teak Faced Marine Plywood - 2' x 2' South Florida

An option is to buy your 1/2 (2 x 2) sheet of marine grade plywood (Okume/Hydrotek etc.), locally and some teak veneer and make it yourself.

My lumber yard sells the teak veneer in sheets/rolls.
You can buy it online as well.

This how they make the stuff in the factory.
They bond the veneer to the marine plywood using contact cement.

Weldwood contact cement - available at Lowes, home depot, amazon..etc.
The technique is the same as bonding Formica to countertops.

My Catalina 30 (being a cheap production boat) uses this veneered "teak" for all of the bulkheads, shelves etc.

No, just other peoples time? I don’t mean to down on the guy, and I think it’s great to give a shout out to marine lumber suppliers. That said, you have to keep in perspective that many people are spending their limited time for free to help someone out with this. Sucking everyone else’s resources to save a penny isn’t the right mentality to have IMO. That said the answers to these questions often help people in real need years after they’re asked.

I find flippercarson's post very good use of this forum, yours not so much.
