Instead of complaining about how someone got such and such, click on the poster's name and scroll down.
Next, click on "more posts ".
You can read as much info as they have posted.
It's called "doing your homework".

I am a patreon for four vlogs two are informative , Boatworks today, Sailing Emerald Steel, and two are for fun. White spot pirates and sailing Uma. I usually switch to a new "poorer" channel when someone starts getting over a $1000 per video. I figure it is a way to keep things going. If they are idiots (yes they are out there) I don't give anything. If they are legitimately trying to learn and do things right. I like to encourage them. (never more than a couple of dollars though) It cost me about the same as a premium channel on direct TV and is much more tailored to my viewing enjoyment.
Damn.. Gonna have to start videoing my deliveries.. sounds like I'll make more than I charge to deliver..
Re the heart op/problem.. that was an excuse for trying to get outa paying for a 17k nm delivery.

Neeahh..!!! Not so sure.. Pirates in the S Pacific and great detail about the hidey hole for the gf.. would have been found in 5 minutes..
Boiled down to some Equadorian net tenders offering fish for smokes or beer..
But guess someone got their rocks off on half hour of nada..

Re: Why do people pay for somebody else's fun?

I have spent the last 25 years doing the heavy lifting on other peoples movies or television shows, so that I can spend evenings and weekends on our boat with the dream of one day cruising for longer periods of time. I have waltched many of the utube programs mentioned here and i must say i am often impressed by the production value on some of them. Not just any kid with a camera can consistently produce programing of the quality of "SV Delos" for example.

In "the old Days" sailors went to sea came home wrote a book about their adventures and funded the next adventure. All of this is just the natural progression of that same cycle. But just like everything else in our world its more instant.
And yes its a lot more in your face and some of the content may not be to your taste. However you can trace a line from "SV Delos" right back to Slocum, Moitessier, knox-Johnston and all who have funded there cruising with their words or art since.

You don't have to like it or understand it but that does not make it any less true

Travel stories have long been a tremendously popular genre. Look at Mark Twain for a classic example...his travel & adventure writings were hugely popular in his time...and still garner significant popularity over the years.

Reading his stories as a kid growing up on the banks of the Mississippi river contributed heavily to my semi-nomadic lifestyle as an adult.

In a loose sense, the modern YouTube cruiser is a continuation of that. Though Ive got a lot more admiration for Twains substabtial talent than these T&A shows masquerading as a sailing show.

It's a money maker! We just need a name for the channel.

Salted goat?

Dick's sailing! Even writes its own slogan. Cause if you like sailing you'll love Dick's.

The Booty Boatie Show..... It'd be like Soupy Sales with a thong.

LOL our local gun shop had a sign that said "We Sell ARs Because We're Not DICKS". I thought that was funny.

That Dick's slogan works for anything. Dick's hot dogs. Dick's tanning salon. Dick's sewing machines.

I should have went into marketing.

I actually stole that slogan from a Dick's drive-in that sold hotdogs and put that on their sign long before everyone and their sister would have been offended by it.
