No idea, and tough because how far back to you go, the guys building Nile river sailboats in 2000BC?

It is believed to be The Camper and Nicholson Company as the 1st documented yacht manufacturing company .

Wiki~~Camper and Nicholsons are the oldest leisure marine company in the world .

What is the proper nautical term for that piece of small stuff that you use to tie-off your halyards and keep them from banging against the mast (for those of us that still have external halyards)?

Joker down the street from me is leaving this month to "beat" his record on a 20 foot larger and much higher performance boat with satelite communication and on demand weather and routing. Some challenge!
