Glad I could help.
I would love to post a video, but don't know how.

I love Sail Away by David Gray (mentioned already) but there are two very big missing songs from the list so far

I'm on a Boat (comedy by Lonely Planet)

Lyle Lovett singing If I Had A Boat

Tobacco Island by Flogging Molly.

Loads of QUEEN.

Around The World, by AQUA (don't hurt me).

And two vaguely disturbing songs no one would know unless their kids blast it because they're apparently internet memes (Waka Laka (E=MC2 mix) and Caramelldansen (Spedycake Remix). And we're not going to discuss my collection of Hungarian Pop. Or Miyavi. Gonna go play with wiring before I get myself hung now.

Might be a little late with my response but here goes. As a teenager, the only music we had on our boat was "Beach Boys" "Jimmy Buffett" and "Bob Marley." After going in to my heavy metal/80's hair band phase, I finally came to appreciate that there was plenty of other good music out there. Some that I hope to have on my boat someday would include:

CCR, The Cars, Styx ("Come Sail Away"), Dire Straits, the Massacoustics, Genesis, Tom Petty, Acoustic Alchemy, Oscar Lopez, Kelly McGuire, and Great Big Sea.

Not a huge fan of the standard Buffett tunes but I appreciate some of the lesser known but live versions of songs like "Growing Older But not UP", "Barometer Soup", Take Another Road (anything from the "Off to See the Lizard" album is pretty good), and "Back to the Island."

Also think it would be fun to have the theme from the "Love Boat" and "Gilligans Island' handy just for laughs.

Jimmy Buffet is a poet. His early stuff is pure gold.

Kelly McGuire Boat in Belize, Solitude, and Sailing away from the madness are good.

Nobody mentioned Don Ho Moonlight Lady

Midnight Lady by Gabby Pahinui on the Hawaiian Band Album. Believe Gabby wrote this song and knocked it out of the park on this album playing with his sons Blah and Cyril. Can't believe Don could have done a better job on the song.

Gabby pretty much invented slack key guitar and was a leading light on the Hawaiian Music scene from the '40s on.

Thats good. I do like the Don Ho version better though. He had a son named Blah?

What Dire Straits songs are best for sailing other than my two favorites of course
Single handed sailor and potobello belle.

[QUOTE=Rhosyn Mor;320815]Day sailing;
Pink FLoyd- wish you were here...

Great song! Try Alpha Bondy's version... the Ivory Coast reggae great has a very nice cover of this on his latest cd Jah Victory.
Dub Side of the Moon is a nice reggae/dub version of Dark Side... by the Easy Stas All Stars, nice sailing music as well.
Obviously I also like sailing with reggae
Live Dead St. Stephen/Dark Star and a few others of theirs work well for me.
Sky Cries Mary
Dengue Fever
Phsycidelic style rock seems to fit sailing for me.
oh, and Traffic

Very Be Careful
Grizzly Bear
Carmen (Leyontene Price please...)
Spaghetti Western Soundtracks (Mastriantonio?)
Ella
along with so many other choices here...

Heres a rare one.

When I was a young boy I wanted to sail 'round the world
That's the life for me, living on the sea
Spirit of a sailor circumnavigates the globe
The lust of a pioneer will acknowledge no frontier
I remember you by thunderclap in the sky
Lightning flash, tempers flare, 'round the horn if you dare
I just spent six months in a leaky boat
Lucky just to keep afloat
Aotearoa, rugged individual glisten like a pearl
At the bottom of the world
The tyrany of distance didn't stop the cavalier
So why should it stop me? I'll conquer and stay free
Ah come on all you lads, let's forget and forgive
There's a world to explore
Tales to tell back on shore
I just spent six months in a leaky boat
Six months in a leaky boat
Shipwrecked love can be cruel
Don't be fooled by her kind
There's a wind in my sails, will protect and prevail
I just spent six months in a leaky boat
Nothing to leaky boat

oh... it's Ennio Morricone who did all the music for Sergio Leone's westerns, just the straigt soundtracks... there's a lot of orchestrated versions out there which is kinda boring.
Also, forgot Sitar music or Balinese Court Gamelon...
