SCUBA DIVERS, What's in your DRY BOX?

As we get our dive gear out of the closet and doing a little inspection. I was suprized opening my DRY BOX and finding $110.00 cash. Which I keep for food if needed. But in talking with my dive partner we started to take a closer look at our dry BOX. So what if anything do you carry in your DRY BOX?

The Dry Box can be a Plastic bag that wil keep evrthing dry as possible. Here is my list.

1. "O" Rings, extras.
2. Facemask Straps, extras
3. simple tools, roll of tape.
4. Iphone, Plastic bag keeper.
5. extra small dive knife
6. SUN Screen
7. Extra Cash for food if needed.

Spare yoke screw and lube ^

Add a mouthpiece, some bungee cord, spare computer battery, mask Defog.
I won’t use a yoke regulator myself, but if renting tanks you may have to, then I add an adapter to my regs.
Use O2 clean lube and Viton O-rings.
I carry an extra mask

Sometimes called save a dive kit.

I have a pick in my gear for extracting o-rings and also an adaptor for filling my DIN tanks. Not all shops can easily find theirs for some reason. I also keep Stugeron for first day out if there's rough water.

A small medical kit for stings scrapes and dehydration
Spare battery for the vhf/gps
Cable ties
Nautilus lifeline
A set of very cheap compact binos

As a Hogarthian cave diver..we carry redundancy of equipment..lights, cutting tools, reels, second stages, dive computers,dive watches..

Bill Hogarth Main is a good friend of my ex (Lamar English). I think his idea was more about streamlining rather than redundancy (which is critical - absolutely) but I know people who go waaaay overboard on carrying stuff for any and all possible contingencies including an asteroid strike (and I'm only slightly kidding). From my perspective, if your gear ain't in good condition to begin with, then there's not much in a Save-A-Dive kit that will fix this problem.

His idea as being a ‘minimalist‘..as I pack (less tanks) my equipment for N. Fl ’ Cave Country ‘on a motorcycle. Redundancy is mandatory and Complacency can kill in this very dangerous endeavor...

For an ordinary dive I don't carry any spares relying instead on careful maintenance.


First dive on new equipment or after maintenance I bring parts and tools.


If we are traveling a long way to dive I bring a spare regulator set, cylinder, mask, and wing. I dive wet and use full-foot fins (with socks) which gets rid of a number of failure-prone parts.
