Sailing videos

I would like to get some ideas for movies etc that are about sailing or being around the water. The winters are long here and I'm bored now that I can't hang around the boat. I do have Captan Ron, Wind and master and commander. Are there any others??

Entertainment or educational?
I will start with the DVD's that the Pardeys put out. Very educational. They currently have a box set out, that includes a copy of the interview I did with them on my radio show. (a little self promotion never hurt anyone ) Horatio Hornblower series is a good entertaining series. One of my favorite movies, if you can find it, is Mystery of the Sands. Captain Ron is a great no brainer, as I am sure you know by now, but it's fun.
THere are a couple of DVD's about Tristan Jones on EBay right now. I have not seen them, but they sound interesting.
THere was a discovery channel special last year recreating the voyage of the endeavor. I believe it is available on video.
I have more, but don't feel like searching right now, and my memory fails me.

Hi there, the winters are hell here also.(we are in New Hampshire right now) I come from New Orleans where
the only ice there is for drinks!! The dvd WIND is great, it's sure to raise a smile. Lots of sailing action and fun for the whole crew.

I had hoped the Pardey's would be that the Chicago boat show this year. The DVD's are much less when you buy from them at the show. Lats and Atts has a big selection for sale.

hmmmm......

Well I love anything boating and especially sailing, so it was great for me. I would have to say that it's obvious that this is a lower budget program but informative. Would I spend fifty bucks and buy the season again? Probably not at that price. I would buy them if at a lower price however.

I have seen it, and spoken with Bob about it briefly. It is a cable quality show. Not bad, but very targeted. Keep in mind that Latts and Atts is oriented toward the big buck cruiser. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but I find allot of what he has in the rag, and the show as well, hard to relate to. The show is interesting, and I watch it when I happen to catch it, but I do not schedule it. I would suggest watching a few episodes before spending money on the DVD's. It airs on the travel channel, I think at 7pm Pacific on Sundays, but double check, as I am not positive about that time, and your area may be different.

I alway thought that Lats and atts targeted average cruisers in average boats. What has changed?

Just an opinion. In contrast to Good Old Boat for instance. I knew Bob back in our riding days, and I suppose he has earned the right to go first class, but the big dollar boats he usually has in his rag, are not the same level of cruising boats that I can afford. Same with allot of the equipment.
As for his show, it is fun, and is good entertainment.
His sailing eeks more of Ted Turner, than of Tristan Jones. I am more of the Tristan ilk.
