Offshore fishing

We use 'Cuban YoYo's". The 10 inch dia spools with 200 lb mono and a steel leader. I use the cleats as a drag and a bunge as shock absorber.. A big feather or a rigged Ballyhoo and Game on! You can pull in the mono with gloves on and we are food fishing... not sport.

I gave up rod and reel on the sailboat. The last time I used that rig I foul hooked a huge Mahi. The fish went everywhere while I tried in vain to get around all the rigging. Looking back at the chart plotter history it looked like an etch-a-schetch on crack.

Now we just hog them in and chow down.

We reel the fish in, gaff it, a little rum on the gills, then into the dink in the davits. Ideally the fish doesn't spend much time in the cockpit, unless posing for a picture.
