Will I be rebuffed by closed restaurants, shut down pump-out boats and unavailable local ferries and moorings?

Services in New England move to a 'winter' schedule after Columbus day. The monday of Columbus day is typically the last day that pump-out boats run.

With a strong presence of commercial fishing, I'd expect fuel docks to be open, but I would check what their off season operating hours are. sometimes they close early. some are only open on weekdays.

Ferries typically run year-round, though the off-season schedule will more than likely be reduced trips and times. Many restaurants are open year round. Open air facilities like 'clam shack's'/clam bars' will probably be closed after columbus day.

Yes, but it's a great time to go there. I know some of the restaurants will be closed but there will still be plenty of others open and services will be available.

NOTE that everything I'm referring too is AFTER Columbus day. Sept. should be fine.

Another common "end of season" date is October 15th. You might find off-season rates at some places. Ask for it when you call, they may just make up a discount on the spot.

One thing you will see more of is Northerly winds. Seas offshore can be pretty snotty for days on end. But in between you'll have some of the best cruising weather imaginable. Make sure you have some form of cabin heat overnight though.

Hopefully, Maine won’t be totally fogged in like it was during this years summer season. I’m heading back through starting Monday, this time we hope to actually SEE Maine.
